My Beef with The Grammys
The Grammys are an overrated award show that is just as overrated as the Oscars. Most of the time they are completely wrong in what is actually deserved just like the Oscars are. They pick songs and albums that really aren't that good and don't have the impact that other ones left off the list have. But every once and a while who deserves to win right but even when they pick the right winner, they pick it in the wrong way and there in lies my biggest beef with The Grammys; the eligibility period.
Plain and simple it makes no sense. The Grammys are supposed to be award for the previous year of music but somehow it doesn't have anything to do with the previous year, only their eligibility period. That period is October 1st - September 30th of the following year. Really?? So the 2018 Grammy awards are going to have albums and songs, that when the show is aired, are approaching a year and a half old. Why not just make it the exact year, January 1st - December 31st. It makes so much more sense to do it this way. Maybe it's just my logical brain taking over and being stubborn but come on, think about it, it would be so much better.
This year was no exception to this stupid situation as Bruno Mars won album of the year. An award for which he is completely deserving of because '24K Magic' was a fantastic album. But that doesn't change the fact that it came out November 18, 2016! He should have won the award for the 2017 Grammys instead of the 2018. This also happened with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' 'The Heist' which came out on October 9th, 2012 and won the award in 2014. Ridiculous!
I know it seems so stupid to get upset at something like this but it hurts my brain to think about illogical it is haha. They need to change it among other aspects of it as well but let's just focus on one aspect at a time. Just make the eligibility period the exact calendar year from January 1st - December 31st and stop this madness! That's it, just a little rant. I'm out.
