It's Short but It's G.O.O.D.

I'm just gonna come right out and get straight to the point, I love what Kanye West's label 'G.O.O.D. Music' is doing with their releases this summer.

Every album released from any of their artists this year is only 7 songs.

This is the type of move that I would have probably hated when I was younger because I wanted the music projects to be as long as possible for the possibility of great music.

But most of the time what happened was a bloated project of 16-20 tracks with a whole bunch of throw-away tracks that shouldn't have made the project in the first place. If they would have got rid of those "filler" tracks they would have been left with an album that is about 7-10 tracks long.

Now on the flip side of this is making sure that if you are only giving 7 songs they better all be great because there is no room for error. On a 7 track project, if you have 2-3 skippable tracks, your album just went way down hill.

But because these artists always come up with dozens of tracks when making an album, they have the opportunity to only pick the best and narrow it down.

Which is what they have done so far. Pusha T, Kanye West, and Kids See Ghosts (Kanye West and Kid Cudi's Group) have dropped their albums a different Friday the last 3 Fridays and all 7 tracks are great so far and not skippable.

Because they are so short and really good, the play count is so high that I get to indulge the songs over and over and over. I have already listened Pusha T's album all the way through over 20 times in 3 weeks because it's only 22 minutes long.

This Friday though, the anticipation for the latest Kanye produced album is at an all time high for me as it's Nas' album being released. Now he isn't signed to G.O.O.D. Music but this upcoming album is entirely produced by Kanye West which is going to be an amazing joint effort that creates a cohesiveness of greatness for your ears. I can't wait for this one.

So in conclusion, I hope more labels and artists start thinking about doing this type of situation with their releases and focus on quality over quantity. Make sure you give the albums a listen and hear from yourself how good they are.
